Catching Up [For Kar]
She smiled slightly at the mention of just being with her. She valued his companionship greatly, and cared for him. She loved him. Loved him in the same sense she loved Mereel, it was very good friends to the point of intimacy.
“I’m shocked too, given our history. Shot at each other the moment we met.” She chuckled into her drink, drinking deep. “Call me an optimist, but you’ll find that someone. Man, woman, quarian, whatever. Trust me on that. And worse case, I can tell you a good varren breeder…”
She hoped that didn’t come off too insulting, but know Siddy, he’d take the barracking. She was trying her best to censor herself, after far too many faux past with the aruetii. She wasn’t going to point out her potential bondmate was older than even him, it didn’t matter. “I’ll try just a little longer. And keep my hopes up for you too.”
Sid often wondered why he held onto things for so long; there was no doubt in his head that he loved Kar. Loved her in all the ways she probably didn’t want him to—or at least, didn’t need him to. And he was certain she knew… All that Force nonsense, just knew. It was probably mercy, on her part, that she didn’t let him any closer, because having a taste when he couldn’t drain the whole drink would have been torture. He didn’t want to shatter what he already had, which was one of the few things keeping him alive.
He almost snorted into his drink at the varren comment, coughing a bit, and forced a grin, half-amused. “S’awright. Even if I never get what I want, I can at least fuck around for a few more years.” He was quite convinced at this point that he’d never have a steady relationship or any kids to tell his stories to, but it wasn’t so bad. He’d gotten used to playing Uncle to his friends’ children.
But he was letting his mind wander to dark places again. A recently much more serious problem. His hand was shaking, and he squeezed the glass a bit, trying to steady it. “Yeah, that sounds good. Gotta try everything once before I go. Quarian is top of the list. Never slept with a drell, that’s a must…” He paused, and raised an eyebrow at her, teasing. “But no varren, ay?”
